Last Night of the Proms was a great success

Last night's event, again held at the Palace Theatre, was one of the best yet and heralded as a great success by members of the Twinning Association Committee and the Newark & Sherwood Concert Band in their first appearance at the event. The event is the Association's major fund-raiser for the year and was well supported by regulars and first-timers alike. Chairman of the Twinning said, "a lot of hard work goes into organising events like the Last Night of the Proms but we know that many people look forward to it each year. We are delighted to have been joined this year by the Newark & Sherwood Concert Band and they have shown what wonderful talent we have locally."

The band was equally pleased with the evening and their news item is
available here. The first-half programme included Lucy Long, Puttin' on the Ritz, Mary Poppins and Ave Maria beautifully sung by conductor, Colum O'Shea, who entertained the audience with light hearted and well-informed banter during the whole performance. After the interval, "Proms" favourites, Nimrod, Fantasia on British Sea Songs, Jerusalem and Pomp and Circumstance - amongst others - were performed to the delight, and active participation, of the audience who sang, clapped and threw balloons to their hearts content before the concert closed with the National Anthem.
