Another personal holiday masquerading as a visit to Emmendingen!!
There's also one video here. On the Monday OB Stefan took us on a day trip to the Belchen, the second highest mountain in the area. In winter a skier's paradise, in summer the cable car takes visitors to the top for magnificent views all around. From here you can see Freiburg, Emmendingen, the Rhine, France and Switzerland.
Emmendingen is the main centre within the Breisgau wine area. Weinland Breisgau arrange a wine festival in and around the town each August. It is an opportunity for the various wine growers within the region to showcase their product and for the townsfolk and visitors to enjoy the fruits of the vine in a relaxed and social atmosphere. There are roughly 30 stalls situated through the streets selling wine by the glass or bottle and trestle tables are set up on an ad hoc basis. Essentially a private visit by some members of the Twinning Association (including the webmaster, hence the photos!) these pictures will give visitors to the site an idea of the friendly way we are always greeted in our twin town and the fun to be had from drinking wine in pleasant, warm and sunny Emmendingen over the course of a weekend.
As with last year's event, this was essentially a private holiday visit to the annual Breisgau Weinfest by Bob, Rita, Tony, Becky and Max. It really is an excellent event and showcase of both the town of Emmendingen and the produce of the area. It would be the web master's hope that those photos of this annual festival that appear on the site prompt others to travel to Emmendingen in mid-August to experience it for themselves. The fun and warmth of welcome are evident in the photos and it really is worth the trip.
This particular trip was undertaken by car and motorbike with overnight stops on the way there in the middle of nowhere in Cramant near Epernay and at Kaysersberg in the Alsace region of France. On the way back we stayed in the medieval hilltop town of Laon about 2 hours south of Calais. All of these venues generated stories which are still told to this day! Great fun weekend to be recommended to all.
